What is crude oil?

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Definitions of Crude Oil on the Web:

  1. A mixture of hydrocarbons that exists in liquid phase in natural underground reservoirs and remains liquid at atmospheric pressure after passing through surface separating facilities.

  2. Liquid petroleum as it comes out of the ground as distinguished from refined oils manufactured out of it.

  3. Liquid petroleum as it comes out of the ground. Crude oils range from very light (high in gasoline) to very heavy (high in residual oils). Sour crude is high in sulfur content. Sweet crude is low in sulfur and therefore often more valuable.

  4. A mineral oil consisting of a mixture of hydrocarbons of natural origin, yellow to black in colour, of variable specific gravity and viscosity.

  5. Crude oil is the mixture of petroleum liquids and gases (including impurities such as sulphur) that is pumped out of the ground by oil wells.

  6. The basic raw mineral pumped from the earth. There are many different grades of crude, each containing various vapors, liquids and solids. This crude is changed at a refinery into products.

  7. OPEC definition :Crude oil is a naturally-occurring substance found in certain rock formations in the earth. It is a dark, sticky liquid which, scientifically speaking, is classified as a hydrocarbon. This means, it is a compound containing carbon and hydrogen, with or without non-metallic elements such as oxygen and sulfur. Crude oil is highly flammable and can be burned to create energy. Along with its sister hydrocarbon, natural gas, derivatives from crude oil make an excellent fuel.

Never drink sea water..

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

As a survivor on the open sea, we may face extreme heat or cold. We may also face thirsty and hungry. But never drink sea water.. if you drink, the water that makes up your body will be reduced and the cerebrum will be stimulated to required more water and consequently you are compelled to drink more sea water. You would become debilitated, your consciousness would grow dim and at last you would be driven mad.

ExxonMobil Sends Man 2,000 Credit Cards

Monday, July 30th, 2007

NEW YORK - He wanted a couple of credit cards. He got a couple of thousand. Manhattan accountant Frank Van Buren found himself flooded with plastic in recent weeks, as the ExxonMobil cards kept on coming. Van Buren, who said he has had an ExxonMobil account for his business for 17 years, had ordered two copies of his card because it was expiring.

He got the cards he requested — and then got two boxes with 1,000 cards each. Van Buren said it took hours to shred the cards, which all had his name and account number.

“How could you send me 2,000 cards by mistake?” Van Buren said he asked customer-service representatives.

ExxonMobil Corp. spokeswoman Paula Chen said the Irving, Texas-based oil company was looking into the mix-up.

Top Posts by Category Plugin

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

This plugin was created by Marc Hil Macalua, the Founder of SEO Philippines. Its great plugin where it allows Wordpress bloggers to display their best posts, as determined by the number of visits to the post or number of comments.

Plugin Features

  • You can choose between displaying top visited posts or top commented posts.

  • You can choose to diplay top posts by category or you can display the top posts regardless of category (or as I would like to call it ala Royal Rumble)

  • You can choose to display the actual number of visits or comments for each post featured on the best list.

  • You can control the number of top posts to display, i.e. display N top posts per category.

I found it useful to track my visitors but it also counted my own visits. To solve the problem change the following code:

in the funtion tpbc_tracker(), line 81:
if (is_single () && !is_page ())

you can change it to:
if (is_single () && !is_page () && !current_user_can(’edit_posts’))

Why Working Offshore

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

There is a great difference between offshore work activities from those of a normal workplace. Strain on family relationships, 12 hours working a day, harsh weather condition, travel by boat or chopper, homesick, strictly regulated working and living conditions, lack of privacy, persistent noise etc. Health risks are greater in offshore drilling than on mainland. Obviously working offshore is different from working in an office at onshore.

Some find it a challenging, an interesting career, an opportunity to better themselves.

To be sure, the work is hard, but if you are in good physical shape and are willing to work, you shouldn’t have any trouble adjusting to the increased work load.

Offshore work is an immensely interesting field, and interest in learning your job and others, as well, sparks ambition. Once you get in and get some basic experience you can move into many different areas involved in all phases of the industry.

Will oil really run out in the near future?

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

I read from one site :

Of course it will. Even the recent conclusions reached by an Exxonmobil about the future of global oil supplies are wildly optimistic and based on numbers that industry experts speaking off the record say are significant exaggerations of supply made for political reasons.

Oil is running out, period, and we may already be past peak oil. From here forward, oil is only going to get increasingly scarce and more expensive. Demand for oil will soon significantly outstrip supply. The growth of China’s consumption, combined with America’s unprecedented thirst for energy means that from here forward, it’s a bidding war over increasingly scarce supplies.
