My first ebook..

December 9th, 2007

I can’t believe I’ve just finished creating my very first e-book. I thought it would be so difficult and I thought that creating e-books were only for the big marketing guru’s or techies. I’m neither of these and I created it with ease. Peh.. just get your PDF editor like Adobe Acrobat 7, do some edit and convert to PDF, you’re done. I never realized that ebook and pdf file is almost the same thing!

There are a lot of e-book outside there with a lot of information.

This plain stupid ebook of mine is designed to help people understand and learn how to use Filezilla to tansfer the file, or FTP. Actually this tutorial was posted in my previous post. You can go here to have a look.

So, this is my first trial and I think what can i do next is to produce a profitable ebook.. wow i’ll be a millionaire in the next 24 hours, start counting 23 hours left, 22 hours left fcuk man it is only a joke, a famous stupid joke on the net …. bla bla ..

The Basics of Liquefied Natural Gas LNG

November 26th, 2007

Liquefied Natural Gas, or LNG, is natural gas in its liquid form. When natural gas is cooled down to minus 259 degrees Fahrenheit (or -161 degrees Celsius), it becomes a clear, colorless, odorless liquid. Natural gas in liquid form, is only one six-hundredth of the volume of its gaseous form, which makes it easier to be stored and transport.

The natural gas is primarily Methane, with low concentrations of other Hydrocarbons, water, Carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen and some sulfur compounds. During the process known as liquefaction, the natural gas is cooled down below its boiling point, and in the process removing most of these additional compounds. The remaining gas is primarily methane with only low amounts of other hydrocarbons.

Liquefied natural gas weighs less than half the weight of water so it will float if spilled on water. A large part of the world’s LNG (Liquafied Natural Gas) supply comes from countries with large natural gas reserves. These countries include Algeria, Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar, and Trinidad and Tobago.

There are more than 40 gas receiving terminals located worldwide. Japan, South Korea, the United State and a number of European Counties are importors of LNG.

LNG is normally transported in double-hulled ships specifically designed to handle the low temperature. These carriers are insulated to limit the amount of LNG that boils off or evaporates. This boil off gas is sometimes used to supplement fuel for the the carriers. LNG carriers are up to 1000 feet long, and require a minimum water depth of 40 feet when fully loaded. There are currently 136 ships which transport more than 120 million metric tons of LNG every year.

10 things you should have already done to secure your laptop

September 14th, 2007

I got this from email and I think its good to share it here.

There are a lot of reasons to make sure that your laptop stays secure - both from a physical perspective as well as a software/data perspective. From the physical side, laptop theft isn’t generally considered a positive event - at least from the victim’s perspective. From the data side of the equation, however, losing the wrong laptop can cost your company much more than the cost of laptop. Imagine the public relations fallout if your company loses a laptop containing private information about all of your customers.

This 10 Things describes steps that you can take to protect your laptop. Not all of the steps will necessarily apply to you, but they should all be considered in any comprehensive protection plan.

1 Encrypt the hard drive
Scenario: You’re in the airport and you lose your laptop or it’s stolen. Said laptop contains your entire customer database along with personal information about each of them. Voila! Instant public relations incident — except it is not the kind of PR that you want. Protect yourself from this kind of problem by encrypting your laptop’s hard drive. If you’re using Windows Vista, consider using Vista’s BitLocker drive encryption software. If you’re using Windows XP or another operating system, there are a number of third party full-disk encryption products available on the market. Although you can use EFS (Encrypting File System) to achieve a similar goal, full disk encryption provides better protection as everything on your disk gets protected and you don’t have to worry about saving files to a particular location.

2 Install tracking software
Protecting data is extremely important but if your laptop is lost or stolen, you probably want it back. To this end, install software on your computer that tracks its location should it ever be lost or stolen. Most laptop theft recovery software installs to an undetectable location on the laptop and the software cannot be erased from the system. Each time the computer connects to the Internet, it reports in with the software manufacturer. In the event that the computer is reported to the recovery software company as stolen or missing, the company tracks down the physical location of the laptop and then notifies the authorities. In many cases, the hardware is actually recovered. However, even if the laptop is recovered, you can’t be sure that the thief didn’t compromise your data. Some tracking software includes the ability to remotely delete information from the laptop as well. This feature can be a lifesaver if a laptop with sensitive information is stolen. With this capability, you’ll be able to delete potentially sensitive information before it falls into the wrong hands.

Memory and coffee

August 7th, 2007

Drinking more than three cups of coffee a day helped protect older women against some age-related memory decline, giving women more reason to love the world’s most popular stimulant.

“The more coffee one drank, the better the effects seemed to be on (women’s) memory functioning in particular,” said Karen Ritchie at the French National Institute of Medical Research, whose work appears in the journal, Neurology.

The researchers followed more than 7000 men and women in three French cities, checking their health and mental function and asking them about their current and past eating and drinking habits, their friends, and their daily activities.

The study found women who drank more than three cups of coffee per day, or its caffeine equivalent in tea, retained more of their verbal and - to a lesser extent - visual memories over four years.Women over 80 reaping more benefits from these beverages than those who were 10 to 15 years younger.

But the researchers didn’t find a similarly protective effect in men, although other studies have found a benefit to males. How might caffeine help ward off cognitive decline? “It is a cognitive stimulant,” said Ritchie.

It also helps to reduce levels of the protein called beta amyloid in the brain, she said, “whose accumulation is responsible for Alzheimer’s disease but which also occurs in normal aging.”Ritchie said she wasn’t sure why men in the study didn’t benefit from caffeine. “Our hypothesis is that either women metabolize caffeine differently than men, or there may be an interaction [of the caffeine] with the sex hormones, the estrogen-progesterone balance,” she said.

Some studies in mice have suggested that caffeine might block the buildup of proteins that lead to mental decline.Ritchie is not sure why only women benefited in her study.
